Wether staggered wheels are allowed by Mercedes depends on the transmission.
Cars with 7g-tronic (in Germany all M273 E550 5.5) must not use staggered wheels.
However, cars with 7g-tronicPlus (in Germany all M278 E550 TT) can use them!
They even come with them from factory (19" in the E-class, 18" & 19" in CLS class).
The main difference is the transfer gearbox.
